Primer is that product which comes in different forms, for example, foundation primer and eyelid primer and others. Today we are talking about foundation primer which is used on the cheeks. It is the type of makeup which acts as a moisture locker and keeps the skin moisturized no matter what.
The inclusion of antioxidants like vitamin A, C, and E keep the skin healthier, and other ingredients like grape have seen extracts and green tea extracts as well. All these ingredients combined cause a smoothing effect on the skin and also help with the moisturizing of the skin as well.
The purpose of a primer is to create smoothness while freshness is always intended. Also, there are different type in ingredient which often defines the type of primer such as mineral based primers have mica and silica in them while some have tone effector in them which helps in the toning of the skin as well.
Foundation:
Foundation is a type of makeup which is multicolored, and they have different densities. A foundation’s basic purpose is to create an even and smooth look on the face while covering all sort of flaws and some time to change the natural skin tone as well.
Nowadays there is a different range of color in the foundation is available which allows you to choose your favorite and most appropriate color according to your skin tone. Also, the shade range allows you to change the color tone entirely from forehead to chin and neck to shoulder blades.
Many famous brands have created their own range of foundations while many celebrities are now launching their lines of foundation for almost every type of skin tone as well.
The amount of the density depends upon the look you want. There are foundations which comes in four different coverages like,
- Sheer – the transparency is pretty much visible, and the pigmentation is very low.
- Light – the amount of thickness is so little that the blemishes and freckles are sometimes visible even after the application of a foundation.
- Medium – the amount is enough to cover all sorts of cuts and blemishes as the pigment ration is still rather less.
- Full – in this category, the pigment ratio is enough to cover even the birthmarks and scars. It creates an illusion of smooth skin without any sign of unevenness underneath it.
It can be applied through fingers, brushes, and sponges. Now the latest trend is of air-brush is also being used in which your foundation is sprayed on you.
Concealer:
A concealer is a type of makeup which covers the dark circles, large pores and other blemishes on the skin. It is very much like a foundation, but it is often used after applying a foundation, and it covers the marks or blemishes which are still visible even after the usage of the foundation.
What makes it different than a foundation is the fact that concealer is much heavily pigmented and allows a solid layer of uniformity and clarity. A wide range of color is available in the concealer which helps in overcoming the shortage of foundation.
You must not confuse a concealer with a foundation, although they provide the same function. Concealer is also available in different shades. Many people tend to use more than one type of concealer in their makeup routines because they want to clear out the exact color of the spot or blemish.
Differences:
The major difference between the above mentioned three makeup products is not much, to be honest. But there are few main pointers which should be remembered when you are talking about the differences between a primer, foundation, and concealer.
In a makeup routine, a primer is applied first while a foundation is applied on the second. A concealer is applied to the last concerning the three makeup products.
A primer is usually colorless product, but it can come in skin tone. This colorless product will ensure a moisturizing and keep the sweat and oil from getting out of pores and disturbing the makeup setting while a foundation is a base on which all other makeup is build.
Since it comes in different color options, it goes well with skin tones and creating a uniform smoothness. A concealer on other hand does the finishing work while covering the spots and blemishes which are still visible after foundation and other makeup products. Usually used for red spots and dark circles, it ensures an even smoother surface.
A primer is not about the shine, and neither does foundation give it, but concealer gives a shine to your makeup.
A primer will set the mood for the makeup while the foundation is used to play according to the setting and mood set by the primer. In the last, touching is required for finalizing, and that is done by concealing the deal. Hence concealer comes in last.
Conclusion:
All three items of makeup which are primer, foundation and a concealer; they are of utmost importance as they help in making the look complete and exciting. But you must remember that their application timing must be in this order of primer first then foundation and in the end concealer. Otherwise the result will not as fruitful as you think.
